Walk on the Mountainside
I went for a walk on the mountain yesterday
I walked in reverence and the wildflowers and trees
Told me they had something to say
It was in the stillness, in that noble silence
That they finally trusted that I would listen
They let out a sigh and began to sing
To remind me of simplistic little things
They said slow down
Observe and you’ll see
Notice your beauty in the flowers
Hear your song on the crickets wings
Feel the breath of God
As the soft summer breeze
Blows gently across your face
Let the rocks hold you and
Run your hands over the bark of the hawthorn trees
Have you ever felt the softness of the vines on your face?
Have you breathed in the warm air freshly exhaled from the trees?
I took a walk on the mountain yesterday
I watched butterflies play and felt my soul expand
How have we become so disconnected?
We know her as Mother Earth
Yet sometimes she feels like a foreign land
The wind whipped my hair across my face and I let it stay there
Let myself be engulfed by the wild beauty of this sacred place
A chill began to creep into my bones and still
I stayed upon that stone
I felt my soul begin to sing and my heart slowly burst open
My feet grew roots and my breath added to that wild wild wind
I felt the love of the Earth
Felt a growing trust from the birds and the trees
It felt more and more like home on that mountainside
Sing, the trees whispered
Sing and shine.
