Where Have You Gone

Where have you gone my dear?
Where did you go?

Did you take the train to the city?

To sit and watch the people pass
To dance all night with music that lasts and lasts

Did you take a trip to the ocean?

To dip yourself in the salty water
To dive deep underneath the crashing waves

Did you head into the mountains?

Climbing up as far as you could go
To stand on the summit in the stillness
And bare your soul to the heart of the wilderness

Did you take off to the desert?

Letting your pain drop off of you
Like salty sweat, evaporating into the heat

Now that you’re back you seem different

There’s a spark in your eyes
Power in your step

There’s something different about you
That I haven’t figured out yet

I’m curious my dear
Wherever you’ve gone
I think I’d like to go

I’ve got things of my own
I’d like to let go of

Aching for something
To switch up my beat

Yearning to sing and dance
With these two left feet

My soul seems to want to speak
I just feel like I don’t know how to listen
How to make sense of it all

Sometimes you speak with such passion
That your eyes start to glisten

I get goosebumps on my skin
And I have no idea why

Whatever you have girl
It’s contagious

Like the best kind of sickness
The kind you want to catch

Where did you go my dear?
I think I’d like to go
